Real talk…. I wrote this on my birthday, but spent a little too much time enjoying it to post this. After catching up from work and the festivities, I wanted to still share my thoughts on my 30th this year.¬†And, the one thing I will say about celebrating my 30th at night with friends is that I definitely went out like I was in my twenties, but woke up feeling 30. WOO WEE. ūüėČ Here’s what I have to say… It is my 30th birthday today!¬†Ok, that’s the last...

It was perfect timing when I saw, read, and laughed at my friend’s Facebook status today. We have all seen those Buzzfeed articles and Facebook messages talking about how great it is to be 30. I’m with Kelly, it’s all a crock of crap. In honor of my second annual 29th this Monday, I wanted¬†to keep it real and share my friend’s list of why 30 isn’t so great. Top 15 Reasons 30 Isn’t So Great via Kelly Lauren, slightly edited for the Sterling Mom blog. Having your first root canal/surgery/medical crisis/baby...

It was the day of my best friends’ wedding shower and bachelorette party and I had out of town guests and LOTS to do as one of the organizers of the party. With guests visiting and the time coming to get ready to head out and set up for the party, my husband surreptitiously pulls me aside and lets me know that there is sewer water pumping through our basement (both up through the floor and down through the ceiling) and it has started coming out of the floor of our first...

In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to share my motherhood journey, aka my Mommy story. I am certain that everything in life is meant to happen and I believe that everything that has ever¬†happened in my life led me to my purpose – to be Mommy to my sweet, handsome, wonderful little boys. It doesn’t matter how we become a Mom,¬†it’s how we love our kids that matters.¬†Here is¬†the Sterling family¬†story, which is full of love, struggle, and a few wonderful...

I’m a little late on planting my “cold season” crops this year, although, in Pittsburgh, it’s still kind of the cold season. I’m going to chalk up the delay to having 3 kids, one being a baby, 3 dogs, a recent plumbing/sewage emergency that flooded two floors of our house, the resulting cleaning and remodeling to fix the issues – oh, and the fact that I work a typical 60-70 hour (+) work week. Yeah, it’s been rough and I’ve been...

We signed on with a new partner at work and they instantly needed photos of lots of our product – photos that we didn’t yet have. I tried to engage with a number of professional photographers, but our request and timeline was just not doable for any of them. I was coming up on a quick deadline, the product was in North Carolina, I was in Pittsburgh, PA, with no studio available, and there were no photographers available anywhere. Since I have a professional DSLR camera...

Recently, a group of researchers ran¬†a field experiment. They sent the same, well-written letter to top professors across top universities in the US. The letters praised the professors and requested a meeting to learn more about them and their work. “They emailed more than 6,500 professors at the top 250 schools pretending to be the students. And they wrote letters saying, I really admire your work. Would you have some time to meet? The letters to the faculty were all identical, but the names of the students were all different....

AKA How I Became Sterling Mom On April 30, 2005, the day after my junior year finals at Pitt ended, I went to a¬†music festival in Indiana, PA (about an hour and a half away from Pittsburgh, PA) called Waterfall Jam. My girlfriends and I really just wanted to GET AWAY from the city and get back to nature for one weekend after a long, rough semester. It was my BFF’s birthday weekend. And, we were just ready to go camping, enjoy some live music, and, of course, celebrate....
